Finn meets Paki

Uncle Patrick paid us a visit this week! He came through Seattle on his latest road trip in 'Frita' the Frito Lay van. This was the first time he and Finn had met. Our time together was short, but memorable. Finn passed out smiles for all...as usual. Koen took his sweet time warming up, but eventually let everyone into his 'club'. Along with Patrick came the lovely Cheryl (who we met for the very first time), and cousin Terrell...Patrick refers to them as the 'erils' (sp?). Ha, ha! I got a kick out of that one.

Anyway, it was super fun to have them here. I just wish we could've done more with them...they came during a busy week for us. Oh well, we'll make it up to you guys next time!

Here's Finn with his uncle. They liked each other from the start.

There is no way we were going to let that infamous 'chip delivery' van blaze through town without Koen sitting at the wheel. This is Captain Patrick's chair. Koen was tickled. That's cousin Terrell peeking in the window. I'm sure our 96 year old neighbor, Maxine, was doing some window peeking of her own. Frita spent a few nights in front of Maxine's house.

Side note: Patrick entered a raffle drawing one night while they were here. On each ticket, he wrote 'Captain Patrick'. Amazingly, the first two tickets drawn were both his. The first time that they called 'Captain Patrick' over the loud speaker was amusing to everyone in the crowd, and he danced his way up to collect his prize. But people weren't quite as amused with his luck the second time. Yet he still danced his way back to the stage (actually, he hadn't even reached his seat after the first trip)!

Frita's guts, customized by my brother, himself. Would you believe that six people and a dog traveled and slept in here?

Here's the best picture I could dig up of the exterior (I didn't manage to get one this time in Seattle). Ain't she a beaut!

Patrick is a man of hats...Koen spent a little quality time with each one of them.

Patrick is also an amateur farmer these days, and a good one, might I add. He brought us a whole bunch of carrots, beets, cucumbers, and basil from his garden. He also successfully grew tomatoes, potatoes, radishes, turnips, garlic, onions and much more. I'm way impressed.

An itsy-bitsy beet, and a teenie-weenie carrot from farmer Patrick. Pretty cute.

Guess what else Patrick brought with him. If you guessed 'a crazy, slightly neurotic Jack Russell Terrier named Buddy', then you win a prize! You get to keep Buddy! :) Oh, Buddy. What ever will we do with you? He's the only dog I know that comes blazing into another dog's house, barks and snaps at him constantly, eats his food just to annoy him, and then drinks from his toilet. Oscar was like...'Huh? Who put you in charge?'

Patrick sat and played 'trains' with Koen for a little while. In fact, this was the same train that Patrick used to play with as a child, so he knew it well. Koen and Finn have now inherited it. It's a good little train, hand-made from beautiful wood, and complete with circus animals and cargo cars. Patrick gave Koen all sorts of new ideas...now his other animal toys take rides on the circus train, too!

Patrick also wowed his nephew by playing a few tunes on Koen's $19 ukulele. The lyrics were spontaneous and the giggles were many. Koen kept the beat with his favorite little drum. It was Koen's first jam session. Anyway, we had some good, although brief, fun with Patrick. We hope he comes to visit again some time!

Love ya, bro!
