Visit with Grandpa!

Grandpa just came to stay with us for a few days and we had such a nice time with him! Koen had an absolute blast, whether they were playing the infamous 'roll game' on the floor or picking flowers (weeds) in the yard! :) And when we busted out the old guitar! Well, you should have seen the look on Koen's face when he learned that Grandpa could actually play the guitar...and make it sound like music (rather than the random strumming that Clay and I do). So when Grandpa began to play songs like 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' and 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' there was absolutely no hiding the smile on Koen's face....no matter how desperately he tried.

He was here almost three full days, and we tried to get out each morning and do something fun. We even talked him in to going to the Children's Museum with us. He was a very good sport, following Koen around through all of the chaotic kids exhibits.

Grandpa showed Koen how 'fun house' mirrors work at the museum. Koen got a kick out of this.




We took in some sun and fresh air at the fountain. Koen saw all the kids running through the water, cooling off in the hot weather. I hope someday he wants to do this too (so that I can go in with him!).

We visited Carkeek Park one morning. Koen was fascinated by the giant sockeye salmon slide, but had absolutely no desire to slide through the fish!



We took a little nature walk on some of the park's trails. Grandpa dubbed this part the 'stairway to heaven'. There were tons of steps, and Koen insisted on counting every one of them as we ascended!



We sat on a log to 'contemplate the meaning of life'.




We explored a huge hollow tree.





And best of all, Grandpa showed Koen how he can talk to the birds with a piece of grass...very tricky. And he did in fact have the undivided attention of every bird in the forest. They all began talking back! That Grandpa of ours sure has a lot of cool skills!
